The Tatum Prostate Cancer Treatment Fund, will be using all funds to address the gap between insurance and the expense of treatment needed.

Deacon Tatum was diagnosed with prostate cancer June 25, 2011. This silent disease is very only found in men over 40 years of age and even though the occurrance is frequent in other races, a larger percentage of African American Men are diagnosed and succumb to the disease then any other race.

Upon being diagnosed, Deacon Tatum was given 5 to 10 years before the Cancer began to effect his health, however July 2, 2012 Deacon Tatum was given less then a year to survive the Cancer without treatment.

My father, Deacon Tatum has taken a year to consider the best approach to healing his cancer through medicine. Given our blood-make up, cancer is unfortunately a very high risk and Chemotherapy would heal my father in the short run, however may cause a blood cancer. He was offered Cryo (freezing of the cancer cells) however, that would cause unwanted side effect for the long run of his health as well. Removal surgery is the only long-term and safe treatment, however his insurance does not cover the treatments and the surgery will cost $3,500 in total.

One of my heroes, Deacon Tatum's faith in the healing power of God has been so amazing to watch. During a talk with him recently, he stated that he does not want to fundraiser only for himself, but how many other men are suffering with cancer and do not have adequate insurance to cover the removal procedure. He wanted to create this fundraising page to assist with his removal procedure costs ($3,500) and to bless as many men as he could that need the resources.

He is a humble and prideful man (he doesn't like being helped because he feels he can take care of it himself), and I promised as his daughter to not make him a poster child - but his story is so amazing, his faith is so inspiring and his fight is so glorious.

Even in his sickness he still helps his mother daily as she has been in and out of the hospital. He aids in service with several churches in the Tucson area. He has such a heart and love for everyone else. I have asked him to be selfish and focus on his recovery, and he said - "then who would fill my shoes in so many people's lives, God needs me to keep doing what i have been doing"

We are raising $3,500 at minimum. This will help us bless my father Deacon Tatum for his procedure, we have hopes of raising an additional $14,000 to aid others in this same position, with any cancer they may be affected with.

My Dad wants this fundraising journey to not be about him, but about everyone else who has not had access to the procedures they need to beat cancer.
