The Rayas family is very much in need with a critically ill, quadruple amputee mother and a special needs child.

100% of proceeds donated to the Rayas family

Beth Rayas was a previously healthy software engineer with a probabilities and statistics major from UCLA. She is a mother of three and a wife to a civil engineer.

On May 27, Beth Rayas was admitted to a hospital in Parker, Colorado as she went into septic shock from a strain of strep. She experienced and continues to battle multiple organ failure--including kidneys, liver, and lungs. Two weeks ago she lost both arms and legs below the joints and she is on long-term hemodialysis for acute renal failure. She spent three weeks in a coma—first her body’s natural response to the pain and eventually from sedative medications.

Beth has been making huge improvements recently. She is now awake, fully conscious and completely aware of her surroundings. She asks about her son, AJ, and has not given up her humor and sarcasm! She's getting stronger by the day and we are so thankful to see her awake and constantly sticking her tongue out at the nurses. We are not out of the woods yet and of course there is a roller coaster of emotion ahead of the Rayas family in the coming months.

Her husband Ed already works very hard to support his special needs child, AJ. Ed and Beth's other son, Dominic(17), also got a job this summer and their daughter, Amanda (14), just turned her volunteering work into a paid job to help support the family. Dom and Amanda both spend a lot of time supporting AJ--he needs to be fed, taken to therapy, and accompanied every night.

Continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers; send love and strength their way. Lots of good steps forward, but still very much so in need. Thank you to all who donated in the first fundraiser at
