The Family and Friends of Lupe Falter are uniting to raise money to help with her battle against Breast Cancer. Lupe was diagnosed in early May of 2012 with Breast Cancer. It soon traveled to her lymph nodes and on her last visit to the doctor before the start of chemo, it was discovered that it had spread to her lungs as well. The cancer has taken over most of her organs at this point and has even made way into her spine. Lupe started her first round of chemo on August 1, 2012. When her Medicaid had been used to the max for that cycle, she was sent home without any pain medication, and four days later she became very sick. Sick from chemo and sick because she had developed a blood infection called Septicemia. Her immunity was very low and she became severely dehydrated. After being hospitalized for 10 days, she is now home under the care of her family and hospice. Lupe has been a loving mother to 7 children, grandmother to 18, and a wife for 41 years. She devoted herself to raising her children and often went without so that we didn't have to. She would feed the homeless and clothe a stranger before thinking of herself, and now she needs the help of others, both friends and strangers. At this time, medical coverage has been denied for some of her care. Hospital bills from just a 10-day stay are flooding the mailbox. This has been an emotional and financial burden on our entire family and an area that is too familiar to many. My mother, Lupe, is now stage 4. She has been a fighter the whole way through. Even when she slipped into a coma a day after returning from hospital, she held on to our words and love. She is not ready to go. You see, she hasn't met her last grandchild, mine. At the moment she is crocheting a baby blanket. We continue to admire her strength, courage, and fight for her life against this ugly disease. We can't change the fact that cancer takes away so many and so much from us, but for her, we can make the little time she has left on this earth just a bit easier. Thank you for all of your prayers and support. Anything that you can give would be greatly appreciated. ~ Alisha Falter Flanders
