This is the Gobo Benefit Fund. All funds go towards his medical expenses. Read our story, and share with friends and family!

UPDATE: Gobo just came home today (June 14th) and he has responded very well to his new medication! Now we are on the right track and he will be getting better as we speak!! We are still left with the medical bills, so please bear with us!

Gobo is our 11 month old Border Collie mix. We rescued him on Christmas of 2011, and gave him a home. Since then, he has become the family and friend of everyone we personally know.

About two weeks ago he started having severe complications that left him in the emergency room. From there, he was diagnosed after several x-rays and barium traces with a condition called Megaesophagus.

Megaesophagus is a condition that often gets mistaken for other G.I tract conditions. The muscles that line his esophagus do not work normally, and he cannot push food down into his stomach because of it. Since then, we have been having to feed him a slurry of food, while keeping him in an elevated stance so that gravity can do its work and he can get food into his stomach.

While he was getting better, he started to have some other neurological issues that we noticed.

After a weekend of throwing up, trembling, and biting his own tongue, Monday, June 11th, we took him back to our vet, who decided to keep him because he was starting to get worse again. They explained to us the seriousness of his neurological issues, and said our next step would be to go to a neurologist. We did our research and found out about a neuromuscular disorder called Myasthenia Gravis, which affects dogs who have megaesophagus. It is a degenerative disorder that only gets worse without treatment.

I am 20 years old, going to college and working part-time. My partner is 22 years old, also going to college, and working part-time. We want to do everything we can to save our dog, because he means a lot; not just to us, but to our families and our friends. Besides this fundraiser, we are conducting other musical events and festivals to raise money for his medical bills.

All of the money that we receive is going to be used directly to pay off his medical bills, and to begin treatment before his condition worsens and the disorder begins affecting vital organs in his body. As of right now, his eyes and throat/tongue are being affected. Any amount of donation helps.

To keep up to date on any events we are going to be holding, and to keep up to date on Gobo, see pictures, or send him a message of encouragement, you can log on to Facebook and "Like" his page.

Here is some information on the conditions he has developed.
