The friends and family of Gayle Roberson are raising money to be used for medical costs and expenses not covered by insurance.

Since she was a little girl, Gayle has always been there for others. At the young age of 13, she spent her weekends helping take care of her grandmother who was dying of breast cancer. As an adult, she cared for her ailing parents and is sought out by her own children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and other family members for her wisdom, sage advice and encouragement.

However five years ago, Gayle suffered a stroke at the age of 46. She made strides in her recovery from the stroke but was unable to return to work. Since the stroke, a chronic back condition, which is caused by a bulging disc, deteriorated to the point where all of the nerves on her left side are affected. Gayle has been managing this pain with a combination of physical therapy and pain medicine. Unfortunately, physical therapy and the regiment of pain management medications no longer provide relief. Gayle has virtually no mobility which has resulted in significant weight gain and made a bad situation even worse. There is surgery to relieve the back pain but the doctors will not consider Gayle a candidate for surgery until she loses weight.

Fortunately Gayle has been approved for Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band surgery, also known as Lap-Band. The weight loss will minimize Gayle's pain and decrease her chances of acquiring diseases such diabetes and breast cancer. But most importantly, it will help her meet the qualifications for back surgery.

Gayle's insurance will cover 80% of the costs associated with the procedure and recovery process and she estimates that her out-of-pockets costs will total $10,000.

Gayle is on a fixed income and unable to cover these costs alone which is why we are counting on the generosity of family, friends, and others. We are grateful for whatever amount you are able to donate. Every dollar really does help.
