River's Veterinary Fund

River was spotted running around in a deep ravine near downtown Los Angeles. No one is quite sure how she found her way down there, but based on the way she was frantically running around, it was clear that she was trapped. Rescuers tried for 2 days to reach her, but the very high fence and steep drop-off made it very difficult for her to be reached.

With rain in the forecast and knowing that water would soon fill the ravine, volunteers from the Animal Wellness Foundation devised a strategic plan to rescue her. Once the volunteers obtained access to the ravine they thought it would be very easy for them get River because they could just grab the metal chain that was attached to the poor girl's neck. However, River was so terrified that every time a volunteer got close to her she would run away. After an hour of chasing River through the ravine, one of the volunteers who lived close by got their bicycle and was able to catch-up to River on his bike. He positioned his front tire on the chain to stop River. Finally, River had been caught!

It was very apparent that River had been living on the streets for quite some time. She was extremely dirty, infested with fleas, and her coat was severely matted. River has several fractured teeth on the right side of her mouth that need to be extracted. We suspect that the damage was caused by her chewing through the metal chain that was once used to keep her tied up. In addition, River needs a mass removed from the top of her head and also needs to be spayed. It is estimated that all these services will cost at least $300.00

Please help River by donating to her veterinary care fund! This little girl is so sweet and deserves a second chance at life. Once she is all fixed up she will be able to start her search for a new forever home!
