I want to tell you a story about a little girl named Rhylynne Jean Holmes…
It was September of 2011 that Chris and Erin found out they were expecting their second child! They were elated, and so was their son, Tatum.
At 18 weeks into the pregnancy, an alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) blood test flagged a chromosomal abnormality called Trisomy 18, in addition to hypoplastic left heart syndrome. The doctors informed Chris and Erin that there would be no quality of life for their baby girl and it would be best to abort the pregnancy. Chris and Erin stood strong in their belief and opted not to terminate the pregnancy. In their minds, God created this child and it was not up to them to take it away. Chris and Erin wanted their beautiful little girl to fight as long as her little body would allow her.
On May 10, 2012, Rhylynne Jean Holmes was born and weighed 3 lbs. 11 oz. Rhylynne quickly began struggling to breathe so Chris and Erin requested that the doctor put oxygen on her to make her comfortable. They simply wanted Rhylynne to be at peace.
The days that followed were long and tough. Rhylynne clung to life as she struggled to maintain her heart rate, body temperature, and breathing. The doctor’s speculated that Rhylynne would be blind because her optic nerves were damaged. Rhylynne also lost function of her kidneys for a short period of time.
On June 20, Rhylynne’s breathing tube was removed per the doctors’ recommendation. The doctors also told Chris and Erin that medically speaking, there was nothing more they could do for Rhylynne. They simply had to play the “waiting game” and "it was in God's hands now."
So, here we are over one month later and Rhylynne Jean Holmes is still ALIVE! The doctors continue to tell Chris and Erin that Rhylynne has proved them all wrong! Praise be to God! He continues to work miracles in her body every day.
On Saturday, July 7, 2012, our sweet angel, Rhylynne, passed away. She is now perfectly well in the arms of Jesus. We praise the Lord for the two months we had with her.
