The family and friends of Taylor Simpson are uniting to raise money to help with her battle against Good Pasture's Syndrome.

Taylor was transferred to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital PICU from Watsonville Hospital on 11/15/11 for anemia and acute kidney injury. Her anemia and electrolyte imbalances were stabilized with blood transfusions, daily dialysis and high dose steroids. Renal biopsy and blood anti-GBM antibodies confirmed the diagnosis of Good Pasture's Syndrome, where the body produces antibodies that disrupt the basement membranes in the kidney and lungs, leading to damage. She required 14 days of plasmapheresis during her hospital stay, all together, over 7 hours of treatment per day.

Sadly, the damage done to Taylor's kidneys due to this underlying Rheumatologic disease is irreparable and she is now on life-saving hemodialysis 3 times per week. Taylor will need to continue on dialysis until she is able to receive a kidney transplant, the timeline of which is unknown at this time.

Taylor spent her 14th birthday hooked up to a dialysis machine and despite the hardships she is facing, still wears a big, beautiful smile on her face which is highly contagious! School is very important to Taylor and even though she has limited strength, vitality & alertness, she insists on attending as much as she is medically able to which I find extremely admirable. Her big heart and good spirits are inspiring to everyone she meets..most of all, she has inspired me..I am so proud to be her Mom!!

As you can imagine, this unexpected family crisis has taken quite a toll on us, emotionally and financially. I was laid off from my job just before Christmas 2010, and was making ends meet with unemployment, while looking for work. Taylor needs a lot of home care (on over 13 different medications, many with very serious side effects), very special & strict diet, we need to drive about 500 miles a week, and spend all day 3-4 days a week at the hospital, which is making it difficult to find work. While her health insurance helps with medical expenses, my immediate concern is meeting Taylor's basic needs of living, food for special diet, transportation to and from Hospital and medication. It's never easy to ask for help but in this extreme case, I do feel I need to...

We ask that you please keep Taylor in your prayers during this time! Thank you all for love, support and most importantly prayer. We do believe in miracles and we pray for one each day.
