My daughter Joey has had diabetes since the age of 5. When she was younger is was much easier to control. Now that she is a teen, she wants more independence and sending her to camp to see how other teens cope would be wonderful.

Joey is now 13 and has had diabetes for 8 years.  When she was young, the blunt of her care was on me.  Now that she is on a pump and a teenager, more of her care is on her.  We all know how teens can be...they have a lot going on.  I feel her diabetes has been put on the back burner for her.  I want her to see how other teenagers deal and are responsible.  I want my daughter to see that other kids/teens do it.  I love my daughter and want to see her married, "eventually" with kids and even some grandkids.  If she doesn't learn to make her diabetes first in her life then there is a possiblity this long life I've invisioned for her won't happen.  Going to camp, making new friends, and having mom off her booty will be wonderful for her.
