The family of Matthew Quiroz are uniting to raise money to help with the costs of medical bills. Please show your support!

Our lives have changed after this past September of 2012. Matthew is only 7 yrs old and was diagnosed with a rare cancer-a Wilms Tumor, stage II with unfavorable cells--his prognosis is >70%...this type of cancer accounts for only 6% of childrens' cancer......The day it all began was when he had been playing outside with his little brother. His brother pushed him off his scooter and he fell on his stomach. A day later he was feeling sick and running a fever and I could feel a mass on his tummy. I took him to see his doctor and they found a large bleed to his left kidney. They flew him to Lubbock UMC Children's Hospital and after another CT and MRI, they told me the horrible news a mother never wants to hear. He had a tumor which had been growing since birth. This tumor was on his left kidney and when he fell off his scooter it caused the tumor to bleed. Then, when I thought the news couldn't get any worse, they went on to say--the tumor was cancerous and it needed to be removed right away. They also said his kidney would be removed as well.-after hearing all this I felt as if I was in a bad dream and couldn't believe how sick my son was. He looked healthy and I never noticed he had cancer? It was a blessing in disguise that his brother pushed him, just a small fall made this all happen. I felt guilty and took fault for everything because I felt like a horrible mother and nurse. We now have a long rough road ahead of us. He has already completed his radiation and will still continue his chemotherapy until the end of April. I drive him 4 hours away from home just about every week so he can receive his treatments. The weekly Dr visits are adding up and so are the medical bills. His prescribed plan for chemotherapy is a total of 7 months. Sometimes its just a day of treatment, other times its a week. He can eat whatever he wants most of the time, but he may not want to eat at all. He says the food tastes bad or he just can't keep his food down. I encourage him and cheer him on just to eat a meal or drink a pedia sure. He can't go back to school until next fall because of the risk of infection. I try as much as I can to make him feel like the way he was before he got sick, having fun with his friends and playing outside with his brother and sisters. I will be at my sons side to help him fight and to help him stay strong. This will only be a chapter in our lives that we will look back on and not have to deal with anymore. I believe in God and pray for the strength I need and the faith Matthew needs to stay strong. I know he will do good! He's a brave boy and keeps a smile on his face as I hold back my tears. I also pray for the other parents going through this and also for the children who are continuing to fight cancer. Thanks for taking the time to read this, God Bless!
