Family and friends of Bert Paul are raising money for medical expenses and looking for your support in his fight against cancer.

On August 24th, after experiencing some forgetfulness and spaciness, and with the encouragement of his family, Bert went to the fire station to get his blood pressure checked. From there they took him straight to Rush Copley in Aurora.
On Sunday, the 26th, Bert's family was told the doctors had found a tumor in his brain and an MRI was scheduled. Surgery was scheduled for later that day. The Neurosurgeon tried to remove the tumor and took a biopsy. Bert did in fact have cancer. It's called Glioblastoma (GBM), an aggressive brain tumor, it was about the size of an apple. They were able to remove about 90% of the tumor but had to stop when they lost Bert's left side. This means Bert no longer has feeling or movement on the entire left side of his body. After waiting most of the week for the swelling and pain to subside, Bert was finally moved from the ICU to Rehab to start his long road to recovery.
This is something you never imagine a loved one will go through. One day they are healthy and fine and the next they can hardly move and are fighting a brain tumor. Everyday is SO important, so enjoy the time you have with the people you love. It's so easy to take for granted the people around us.
Your love and support will help give Bert and his family the strength to deal with the emotional and financial challenges ahead.
Bert is loved by so many friends and family, and we intend to fight this ugly disease.
Thank you again for your support!
