Joe Kolb Walks for LaRabida

In November 1965, prior to my 8th birthday I was stricken with Rheumatic Fever for the second time in my life. Unable to walk my father carried me out of our Janssen Avenue home and transported me to LaRabida Childrens Hospital where I spent nearly four months lying in a hospital bed, as part of total bed rest. The time I spent in LaRabida as a child, you can imagine was bittersweet. One of the sweet parts was meeting and talking to my baseball heroe; Ernie Banks. The mission of LaRabida has been always to provide care to children with lifelong medical conditions regardless of their family's ability to pay has been unwavering. The people who cared for me as a young child and who visited me at LaRabida left  an enduring impression throughout  my whole life.  After all these years I have never been able to really thank LaRabida. On Saturday September 18th, 2010 I am walking alone from my childhood home on Janssen Ave to LaRabida Childrens Hospital (approximately 15.5 miles) to raise money and awareness specificaly  in the treatment of children who have been abused, neglected or experienced trauma in there young lives. I am asking  my friends and family to help support me in raising money for this great hospital who have helped so many children since being in existence since 1896. I am dedicating my walk to my cousin Theresa "Chico" Holbach who succumbed to Rheumatic Fever as a child. I Thank You and may God Bless You, Joe Kolb
