This is the Don Ferguson Family Bereavement fund. Funds raised will be used for Don's funeral expenses.

Note from Team DonFerguson:
========================
Don passed away today May 16, 2012. Today was due to be his first day of treatment. His heart failed before the treatment started all attempts at reviving him were unsuccessful. It is a sad day for his wife and his son, in addition to all who knew and loved him.

He was in a great mood today and enthusiastic about his ray of hope - treatment plan. The day before he spoke to his wife quite seriously about what he wanted me to do with his body should he die. He wanted his body flown to Trinidad so he can be buried with his parents. Funds raised will be used for Don's burial.

Update: May 18, 2012:

Before his passing:
===============
The day before his birthday (Feb 10) my husband Don Ferguson was diagnosed with Colon Cancer that had metastasized to his liver. Almost immediately Don underwent surgery (HemiColectomy) and the surgeons successfully eradicated the cancerous tumors from his colon. The next life threatening problem is that his liver has been aggressively invaded by this cancer. He is not eligible for a liver transplant and we started a course of chemotherapy. Based on his severe reactions to the therapy, and the fear that in the attempt to kill the cancerous areas of the liver the entire liver gets destroyed, we decided together that we would abort the chemotherapy and instead treat the liver holistically. Unfortunately our insurance will not cover this treatment.

We have a 16 year old son. His name is Donell. We named him using a combination of Don's name and Michelle (My Middle Name). He is our pride and joy who has a keen interest in medicine. Actually based on some symptoms his father was experiencing at the time, he made an educated guess that his dad may have cancer and urged him to get himself checked out. It was a sad time for us all when we learned Don's ill fate though we are grateful for our son's insight, and for God's grace. We sat down as a family, and prayed about what course of action to take in order to save Don's life. We decided as a family, to use all our life savings and discretionary income to pay for this alternative holistic treatment because we strongly feel it has more potential to save his life. Our goal is to save Don's life.

Given this recession and the fact that we now have only one income (mine), our savings are almost depleted and discretionary income low; we cannot afford the cost of this treatment over time. With the same token, we cannot afford to continue with the chemotherapy treatment (which our insurance will cover) if it is going to take Don's life. We can't risk losing him. If Don does not get treatment, his liver will eventually fail. If he does get treatment, we can preserve his liver and save his life. We are optimistic that this holistic approach will be adequate enough...

We believe strongly that God is in charge and that we face this challenge as a more united family unit. Our son helps me to take care of his dad and does so willingly. He loves his father so dearly as I also love my husband so dearly. Actually everybody who knows Don loves him dearly. He's that type of guy. And we're so proud to be fighting with him for his life... We reach out to anyone who can contribute towards Don's medical expenses since the insurance will not cover any of it since we have refused chemotherapy treatment. We thank you in advance for contributions and/or prayers that you offer us.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to a family representative please feel free to call call me at 404-453-8392. My name is Arlene Ferguson (formerly Saunders). I am Don Ferguson's wife of 21 years, and he is the love of my life.

Blessings to all

AF.
