Manny is in need of a heart valve repair or possible replacement.
Manny was born with a congenital heart defect. His right aortic valve is not functioning properly and must be repaired.
His heart has grown to the size of a full male adult and will continue to grow larger until his right aortic valve is repaired or replaced.
The surgeon will not know if the repair is possible until he has started the procedure. If it is not possible, he will need to replace the valve using the Ross Procedure.
The Ross Procedure is where they will remove Manny's aortic valve and replace it with his pulmonary valve. They will then replace the pulmonary valve with an artificial valve.
Manny will undergo open heart surgery this December 2012. He will stay in the hospital for roughly ten days and then be released, hopefully without further complication. This will be the first, but unfortunately not the last surgery that will be needed as he gets older.
We are praying that the valve repair will be successful, and it will last him into early adulthood before anything further would need to be corrected.
We are asking for donations to help us with the travel expenses, medical care, prescription costs, and future follow up care.
All of your thoughts, prayers, and donations are more than appreciated!
