Gary Evans, Lawrence KS is fighting lymphoma. Stem cell transplant this week in Omaha, NE. Months of home-quarantine to follow
Gary lives in Lawrence, Kansas, and is an employee at Huhtamaki Packaging Inc. in DeSoto, KS. He is having a stem cell transplant this week in Omaha, NE. He will be hospitalized 4-6 weeks following the transplant. Depending on his immune system recovery, he could be home-bound and out of work six months to a year, or perhaps never able to return due to the high risk nature of the procedure. Gary was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in June 2012. He has driven himself to Omaha for two rounds of chemotherapy treatments which have shrunk the existing tumors. Although these treatments made him ill, Gary has kept working, until he was too weak or too sick to continue. Doctors are concerned about the recurrence of the tumors, and Gary's only remaining option is the stem-cell transplant. Fortunately, Gary's identical twin brother is a match, and is donating cells for the transplant. Support comes from his brother, co-workers, friends, and random do-gooders. We are asking for your prayers and your donations in support of Gary.
