A Benefit for Steve Carrow and The American Heart Association

After a night out with friends last September, Steve Carrow was rushed to the hospital where he was treated for his second heart attack in two weeks. Five stents were placed throughout his heart and he was released a few days later. Eight months later he went for a routine stress test to check his progress and was informed that he needed to have another procedure to implant more stents in his heart.

Steve is insured and the majority of the expenses have been paid for by his insurance company but the overall cost of heart surgery and the continual treatment of heart disease is immense. The remaining costs not covered by insurance have accumulated to a massive sum that has increasingly become out of control. Now with additional procedures needed and the continued time spent unable to work, a tremendous strain has been placed on Steve and his family.

For those of you that have worked with Steve or sat at his bar, you can attest to his distinct philosophy of hospitality. He is the most unselfish person with a certain knack of making a person feel like the entire reason for his establishment to be open is to make sure you have an amazing experience. For those that have crossed him probably know more of his stubborn pride and intention of making the world realize that there really is a proper way to do all things. The combinations of these characteristics are what make him one of the most beloved people to his friends and the most misunderstood to his critics. In every instance that someone was to come to Steve in need or extend a public solicitation for assistance, he is the first person to extend a helping hand. He has literally built businesses and provided unconditional assistance to many in need followed with a refusal of compensation. His ideas that every good deed is returned has allowed him to change lives without the expectation of something in return.

A proud person that has made his own way his entire life, he has refused to seek out assistance and shuns away from the very idea of asking for help. Now an unpreventable circumstance has given us the opportunity to reciprocate the generosity that is deserved by our friend.

An evening of festivities will take place on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Everleigh Social Club. The night will include an amazing variety of donated wines, spirits and beer with the most talented volunteer bartenders in the city putting together craft cocktails to accompany musical and dance performances by the beautiful Chicago Starlet’s burlesque girls. There will be a silent auction as well as a silent raffle with incredible items donated by local businesses and restaurants. Please join us in this celebration by participating as an attendee as well as a contributor.

A generous portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association. We all need to find a way to participate in the elimination of something that we regularly ignore until it changes or takes the life of someone we love.
