Tom, a newly diagnosed lung cancer patient, needs help with living expenses & gas to get to & from treatments.

Tom has been employed as a mechanic at Capital Tire & Muffler in Shepherdsville, Kentucky for nearly a decade. He does not have health insurance.

In August 2012, Tom was diagnosed with lung cancer. On September 17th, doctors at Jewish Hospital performed surgery to remove as much cancer as possible. They thought they would only have to remove part of one lung. Instead, they ended up removing his entire left lung. They also found cancer near his voice box and the lymph nodes near his groin.

On October 1st he was hospitalized for anxiety attacks and hallucinations that left him unable to breathe on his own. He was given a breathing treatment and released.

On October 2nd, he was hospitalized again for an infection in his blood.

Tom quit smoking. He filed for disability but is waiting on it to come through. As with anything involving the government, this could take several months. He filed for food stamps and is also waiting on them to come through.

He has no income. He was the sole provider for himself and his disabled girlfriend (my mom). She is still waiting on disability to come through that she filed for in 2010. She has a hearing in January of 2013.

They literally have no income. Tom needs gas money to get to and from his radiation and chemotherapy treatments starting in October. He needs help with car insurance so his girlfriend can drive him back and forth to treatments. He needs help with electricity and water payments. He needs help with his cell phone bill to keep in touch with family.

Several people have already been generous. AT&T wrote off his cell phone bill in September as a courtesy. A lady from his insurance company personally paid his car insurance for the month of October when he agreed to pay her back as soon as he could. A local business has agreed to conduct a fundraiser on his behalf.

But they need money now. Tom needs help to stay current on his utilities payments and grocery money to eat. His social worker is providing him with information on prescription expense reduction plans, but his need is now.

I would like to raise $1,000 to help with Tom's expenses. I want to help him with his utilities and food until disability comes through. Can you help me make this happen? Even $5 would help.

With what we raise, I will pay his utilities bills personally and ensure that the rest of the money is on a gift card for groceries and gas. You will know your money is going directly to help a cancer patient in need.

Please consider giving. I wish I had this $1,000 in my pocket to give him myself, but I don't. Every little bit is appreciated.

"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."--Jesus in Matthew 25:40

Thank you. A million times, thank you.
