I have worked since age 14. I raised a loving family. However, at age 55 I have a very hard time making ends meet. In September of 2007 I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a rare cancer that attacks the blood and bone. Historically, there is no cure for this cancer. However, after two bone marrow transplants my cancer is in 100% remission.

I exceeded my company’s lifetime million dollar cap in 2008. In January of 2009 I developed some major complications due to the transplants and was in the hospital from January 2009 until May 2009. I am so blessed to have a strong support system, my wife Ellen is my rock and my three kids have been right behind her. I hate that I am a financial burden on my family.

The hospital was kind enough to put me on a payment plan. However, in February of this year I developed Kidney problems and spent two weeks in the hospital plus have been going weekly for various treatments. The good news is my cancer is still in remission. The bad news is the medical bills continue to climb. Just the drug co-pays I pay each month are a big burden on my family.

I have a caringbridge web site that also tells my story the web site name is reedwhitener. The hospital where I had my transplants also told my story and the web site is's-story.htm. I encourage you to please visit both. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
