Charlie, Jr.'s family and friends are uniting to raise money to help him battle against brain cancer. Thank you for visiting our site.

We've all heard that life can change in an instant. Well, the truth is I never realized how true that saying was until it happened to me. My name is Charlie, Jr. I am a 17 year-old kid who was just living a normal life. I like playing the drums, the guitar, hanging out with my friends and family, and I was supposed to start my senior year of high school this fall.

But all that changed when I was diagnosed with brain cancer in August. The cancer presented itself in the form of a tumor in my cerebellum, and as a result, I had to undergo a 6 1/2 hour brain surgery on August 15th to remove the tumor. My family was worried about how I would wake up after the surgery. Would I be able to walk, talk, would I ever be the same again?

The truth is none of us could have expected how drastically life would change for all of us. When the tumor was diagnosed malignant, we figured we had two choices. We could either dwell on questions like "why me?" and sulk around, or instead we could get proactive and fight back. Thanks to the help of some amazing guardian angels, on August 20th, just five days after my surgery, my family and I relocated to Duke University Children's Hospital in North Carolina, where I am currently undergoing treatment for brain cancer.

It's still shocking to think that I'm a cancer patient. There have been so many changes to deal with in such a short time. I'm currently undergoing radiation therapy, and soon I'll be starting chemo. Thank God I have the two most incredible parents in the world by my side. Their strength is nothing short of miraculous, and they've done so much to make sure I get the best medical attention possible. My mom had to quit her job to make the move up here, and my dad, who's a police officer, is also not working at the moment so that we can all be together. Meanwhile, I have two sisters attending college back home in Miami, and it sucks that we can't all be together as a family again.

Even though we have insurance, my parents still have to worry about money all the time. There are so many other expenses, like housing and living costs for us in North Carolina, my home back in Miami, insurance deductibles, tons of additional meds, and the trips back and forth to Duke that we'll be taking over the next several years until my treatment is complete. It really is safe to say that our lives have been drastically changed.

Now we are once again faced with a choice. We can sit around and feel sorry for ourselves, or we can choose to be proactive again. That's why we need your help.

So many of you have been asking, what can we do? You can't imagine how blessed I feel to have so many wonderful people I know, and even those of you I've never met, praying and caring about me. My family decided to create this site as an avenue for anyone who would like to help us. All of the money donated will be used to pay for any uncovered medical expenses, and to help with our daily living expenses and medications while we live off one income in North Carolina.

No donation is too small. Thank you again for all of your well wishes and prayers. Please keep them coming.

Charlie, Jr.
