This is Help Vickie Golson Fight and Survive Cancer. We are hoping to raise money for our mother to help her battle.

My mother age 54 was diagnosed with stage 4 Sarcoma April 2009. The cancer started in her right hip and had already targeted her hip bone causing this cancer to be inoperable. She went through her first chemotherapy and radiation like a champ and fighter. The cancer was in remission for almost a year but had already done a lot of damage to her nerves. She developed drop foot and needed a cane and soon a walker. About a year later she was concerned about more pain in the same hip area and the doctors found more cancer. The doctors recommended radiation only. Again the cancer was inoperable. Over the next few years we started noticing a decline in her immune system and her strength weakening. She could barely walk 10 feet without assistance and her bladder control also declined this past year. Scans were done around the hip and pelvic area to see if there was any spreading but nothing showed up. The doctor finally did a fully body scan and in October of this year found more cancer in her spine. Again no surgery. However chemotherapy was recommended. At this point her immune system was very weak and she needed several blood transfusions before she could even start chemotherapy. In the meantime the cancer in her spine was spreading slowly. The chemotherapy that was done this time was considered more aggressive. And really took a toll on my mother. After the first chemotherapy her strength and motivation started declining.
About a week ago she was taken to the ER and they found that her liver and kidneys were failing. She also had an infection in her blood and urine. Jaundice started to take over her skin color and eye color. The doctors were not very hopeful as to how long she will survive this. They discharged her on the 13th of May (2012) and she stated that she wants to continue to fight.
Vickie is a mother of 3 kids including myself and a sibling of 8 brothers and sisters. I am the youngest (28years). She has not been able to work or find a job we found out of her condition. My brother is taking care of her right now as well as working a part time job at Staples. My older sister has an 8 month old and 2 girls (5 and 7) and is attempting to go back to school but helps my brother when he can. Currently I live 5 hours away and it’s hard being so far way. I am trying to get my master’s in Education. I too have a child who is 4 years old and I am also pregnant. My mother’s insurance does cover most of her medical expenses and she also is on disability but with her bills and medical supplies it is really hard for her. When she was in the hospital I went through her bills and noticed that she was late and her utilities were about to be shut off. I was able to pay them for her but can’t afford to help her out all the time. Our family try and help her out as much as possible but it is very hard on all of us.
My mother has fought this cancer for the past 4 years and this battle has been mentally, physically, and emotionally draining on our family, mostly on my mother. She still continues to want to help her children as much as she can and I know it upsets her that she can’t. Right now the doctors’ don’t think she has too much longer and we are all considering hospice. I know she wants to fight this and we are willing to stand beside her on her decisions. Thank you for all your support and kind thoughts and prayers. We have to believe that will power and inner strength can be a more aggressive medicine than any other medicine out there. Help us be strong with my mother.
