The family and friends of Kent are uniting to raise money to help ease the financial burden he faces, as he fully focuses on his recovery.

Over the last month and half the Carson family has collectively held its breath as one of its own has battled for his life. Kent Carson who is only 55 years old, a father of three, contracted a rare and deadly form of pneumonia called legionnaires disease that ultimately left him a triple amputee--he lost both legs below the knee and his left arm at his mid forearm. At one point Kent was given a 10% chance of survival; his heart stopped and he had to be revived, he developed acute respiratory distress syndrome, most of his vital organs began to fail, he had a stroke, and he had internal bleeding. Everything went wrong and his family prepared for the worst while still hoping for the best. But no one knew just how stubborn Kent can be! Beating the odds and shocking us all with his inner strength, Kent fought back, and fought hard. Some of his organs began to function normally, his color returned to normal, and his body fought off the infection. He has since been transferred to one of the best rehabilitation hospitals in the country where he will continue to fight and recover. No doubt the road will be long and hard, but with the support of his family and friends Kent will persevere and return to a normal, albeit slightly modified life. This was one of the worst case of legionnaires disease that the doctors have heard of. A bacterial form of pneumonia, legionnaires disease is contracted via water or water vapor found in hot tubs, water fountains, and industrial air conditioners. This disease is preventable, as long as large buildings/business test and treat their water, sadly enough only a small percentage actually take action to ensure public safety. There has been a small outbreak of the disease in greater Chicagoland, and while we have not been able to trace where Kent may have been infected, we are actively looking. This is a tragedy that no family should have to face, but we are focused on the future rather than the past. We know these are tough times for everyone but we would greatly appreciate any financial assistance you can provide to help ease Kent's overwhelming medical expenses. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and God bless. For those that wish to send in checks instead of donate online we have set up a trust account in Kent's name. You can make checks payable to: Kent Carson Foundation 531 Valley View Dr. St. Charles, IL 60175
