HELP SAVE A COOL CAT!!! Moon Unit needs YOU to donate to his cause so he can live the rest of his life free of Hyperthyroidism!

About 3 years ago, I noticed a small bump on the right side of the neck of my cat, Moon Unit. At the time, I didn't think much of this and didn't pay it much attention. Over the course of the next 3 years, the small bump grew to the size of a golf ball. After having it drained several times, I recently gathered enough money together to have blood work and a biopsy performed to determine the cause of the cyst. This is when I learned that Moon Unit has a condition known as Feline Hyperthyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism causes excessive thyroid hormone in the blood stream to be released. This speeds up most chemical reactions in the body which can lead to complications with internal organs, leading to death in most cases. Hyperthyroidism is common in older cats ranging from 12 to 14 years old. Moon Unit, however, just recently turned 8 years old and is considerably young to be affected with this.

While the disorder can be treated with daily medication, this can get costly over the life of the cat ($800+ per year) and necessitates regular visits to the vet to check blood and hormone levels. Surgery is also available, but can be costly and dangerous to the sensitive neck area in which the thyroid gland is located, often resulting in complications. Of all treatment methods, the undisputed best treatment for this condition is Radioiodine Treatment.

This treatment involves a single injection of Radioactive Iodine which has a 95% success rate in curing Hyperthyroidism in felines for the remainder of their lives. Since Moon Unit will be left radioactive for approximately a week, he will need to be kept at the clinic before returning home. Four weeks following the treatment, his hormone levels should be returned to normal. Three months after this procedure, blood and urine tests will need to be performed to ensure that the treatment was effective. The radioiodine injection, housing, and subsequent check up adds up to $3,000 total. Because Moon Unit is so young, this is clearly the most beneficial and cost effective course of action.

I am asking for your help in saving the life of my dear cat, Moon Unit! I have been out of work for the past 3 years and have recently begun working a temp position at a non-profit. While this temp work has helped me to get by, I cannot afford the Radioiodine Treatment with my current pay. Any assistance you can provide to alleviate the cost of this treatment would be greatly appreciated.

I'm hoping that my friends, family, and online philanthropists such as you can help me save the life of an animal which has been a great friend and companion to me. If you have ever met Moon Unit, had a cat of your own, or cared about another, I ask you to take the time to consider helping me with this cause. Every dollar helps and I am truly grateful for any and all support I receive. Thank you very much and have a great day!
