I am raising money for my father who was homeless veteran AND the VOA who has helped him begin to get back on his feet!

Larry Michaelis (my father) is a Vietnam Veteran who has endured much hardship when arriving back to America more than forty years ago. He was not taken care of by his own country and due to the trauma from Vietnam he has yet to lead a normal life. Just 6 years ago he had fallen into a deep depression due to undiagnosed PTSD. He had gotten divorced, lost his house, tried to take his own life for which I had found him and taken him to the hospital. After he left the hospital he was homeless, went to the Florida Keys to temporarily stay with my brother. He was getting worse. He was told to go to the VA where he had received help, but stayed in a shelter for 2 years. The PTSD had consumed his life.

The VOA has helped him TREMENDOUSLY to get back on his feet, but he is still in need. He has no furniture, not much food in his fridge, a vehicle that is barely reliable to take him to his Dr. and various appointments (which he needs to attend) I try to help as much as I can, but there is so much I can do with what I have.

My dads story was featured on the PBS Memorial Day Concert this passed Sunday, May 27th 2012. You can read about his story through the links to the left!

Majority of the proceeds will be going to the VOA (www.voa.org) whom have helped my dad out, and the other portion will go to my father to help him.. The VOA is an amazing organization who has helped him and MANY others get back on his feet, but there are still thousands who have yet to find that help!

Thank you so much for your consideration and time! Please spread the word!

Sincerely,
Jessica Michaelis
