Please help us get tablets to help the children and teachers.

My son Mariano was recently diagnosed with Autism on my birthday his year, March 13, 2012. I did everything I could do to get him the services he would need and got him into a classroom here at the Henry K. Oliver School located in Lawrence, Ma.

There are 9 students in the classroom. As I came into the room on his first day I was greeted by the teacher and a little girl.
The girl had not been feeling good that morning and the teacher brought her into the classroom to get away from all the chaos in the lunch room. She had given the little girl her cell phone to keep her busy as she prepared the classroom for the day. I had said hello to her and just like my son she responded with a nod and very minimal eye contact, keeping her focus on what she was doing on the phone.
As I walked around the teacher showed Nano his desk. Which had a bucket of stickers that had his favorite characters on them. Each desk had specific objects and what they call rewards catered to each child's likes.
As they all sat down for circle time they had showed me a binder my son would have that had pictures with Velcro on them so the students can show what they want, need, or feel. The binders were very bulky and some were falling apart. All I kept thinking to myself is what if the binder breaks or they lose pictures? Then what? That is why I had the idea of the tablets for these children. To make things a little easier for them and the teachers. Instead of having to thumb through a binder full of pictures they can hold a tablet and open up an app that will help them get across faster what their needs are at that moment.

My mother, Susana Bustos, actually gave me this idea. I love her and she has been a great help with Mariano and now we would like to help other children. We just want to make a difference.
