Family and friends are coming together to help pay medical costs for Sam & Anna’s much loved Sheltie, Wilson.

Hi! My name is Wilson. I’m a bi-blue Sheltie, and I’m just a puppy, not yet two years old. I love chicken, my pink platypus named Larry, and playing ball. Most of all, I love my people.

My two special people are my mama and papa, Anna and Sam. I’m their first and only dog and they fell in love with me the minute they laid eyes on me. They weren’t even planning on getting a dog until they saw me! Ever since I went home with them we haven’t spent a night apart except for once when I stayed overnight with Grandmama and Grandpapa and, most recently, when I had to go into the Intensive Care Unit.

A couple of weeks ago I developed breathing problems. It took a lot of work diagnosing me, because I have something that is pretty rare. It’s called “chylous effusion.” That means large volumes of fatty fluid are leaking into my chest cavity and producing life-threatening (Papa says that’s not good) pressure on my heart and lungs.

My doctors have drained off the fluid five times, and twice I almost died. One doctor said I am so tough, I have “rewritten the book on Shelties!" These procedures have provided temporary relief, but they are also stressful to the heart and lungs (Papa says that’s not good either.) Right now I am on a special diet and supplements and some bad-tasting medicine. I may need a special surgery that can correct the problem.

I am telling you my story because my people are all very sad about me. They don’t believe that I am “just a dog,” but rather that I am a special being who has brought love into their lives. They have spent a lot of money on me. What I am hoping is that our family and friends might be willing to help my people with some of my medical bills. It would make all of us feel a whole lot better to have that love and support behind us.

If you aren’t able to contribute, please know that your good wishes count as well. That’s just the way it is with us dogs. We love you no matter what.
