This is the Samson the Great Dane Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) fund raiser. All of the monies raised will be used to offset surgery costs.

Samson is my two-year-old Great Dane. He just celebrated a birthday August 4th. I rescued him at 8 weeks old from a breeder who was going to destroy the litter. (Samson's mother was an all-white, deaf Dane who was not supposed to be bred.)
One year ago I had taken him to the vet because I noticed him struggling with his mobility. I thought he was too young for hip dysplacia, and so I began to think he had signs of Wobbler's disease. After having the neurological tests examined, the vet said he did not have Wobbler's but she suggested we do x-rays on his hips. That is when she pointed out the signs of hip dysplacia and osteoarthritis. While not unheard of in a pup Samson's size, it is uncommon at such a young age to see it so far progressed. So, we upped his glucosamine levels and she prescribed a PRN anti-inflammatory drug... my only other option being an expensive surgery. I have pet insurance, unfortunately, they do not cover the costs of this surgery. I am on a limited income, and I don't know where to turn to get help for Samson. He is so young and has such a great personality. Samson loves EVERYONE, especially children and he wants to play, but he just cannot get around well enough. It breaks my heart every time I watch him falling down. And if I cannot help him, then I don't know what I will do... I love him so much, and I want to take care of him, but he is too big and weighs 150 lbs. It is not easy getting a dog that size to move around. Any help to off-set the costs of surgery is greatly appreciated!

The Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center, where his surgery is being done, will not accept individual checks. Instead, the VREC has asked that the checks be made to me and written from my own account. (This is new information, so I apologize if anyone has had their checks returned.)
If you would prefer to mail a check, you may send it directly to me.
I will deposit the check into my account and then put the donation on here in your name so that you can see.

Surgery will be performed by Dr. Danova @
