The fundraiser continues because team must still receive sponsorship for in-country costs. It will cost around $1000 to pay the 30+ local workers for 9 days and a few hundred more for other incidentals on-site. If you can help, please do. And then pass along the link to others.

A unique "test" school in Kerala, India that serves the educational needs of developmentally disabled children and adults is in need of a disabled access playground. Once this school has been established, the school's model may be used in other areas where the needs of the developmentally disabled are not being met. It is hard to imagine the joy these special individuals will have to be able to safely play together on equipment that is designed for them. This playground gift cannot be underestimated!  View the PHOTO area to see some of the physically or mentally challenged students putting on a presentation.

Second to this project need is a small village area of Gujarat, India (near where Gandhi was born) that was destroyed by the 2002 earthquake and did not receive much rebuilding relief. It now has a school that was privately built several years ago that began educating just a few hundred students. That school has been added to and currently educates 500+ mostly Hindu children; yet these many children have few outdoor activities due to a lack of both a playground and physical education equipment. As one drives through cities in America and passes many parks and schools with playgrounds, one can hardly imagine having only one playground to serve the needs of an entire region. But that is just what this large playground will do.

An agreement has been reached with several Gujarat village leaders that this large playground and any donated equipment, though kept and maintained on private property, will be shared with the hundreds of other children in outlying areas, too. There are several villages in the area who have already eagerly signed up for times when they can transport local children to this playground to play together safely once it is built. This Gujarat playground will be an amazing symbol of unity and peace among many different villages who care deeply for the needs of the children in their communities.  View the PHOTO area to see the sweet children at the school you will be impacting with your donation.

In addition, the second container (shipping was paid by team) has been filled with meals donated and packed by Target for the install team to distribute in the Mumbai slums in designated areas.   Each specially comprised bag of rice, soy, vegetables, vitamins, and flavoring was created by a group of manufacturers and dieticians.  Each bag can feed a starving family of six for one day and a case can feed that family for a month.  It is remarkable, as an American, how small the bag is compared to the massive amounts most of us enjoy at a single meal.  Yet this will mean the world to a family who is struggling and has no help.  Watch Slumdog Millionaire, the movie, to see more about this kind of slum life.  Despite the millions who are still suffering and surviving in those slums, view the PHOTO area to see just a few of the kids who have been rescued from various Indian slums and placed either into orphanages to live, or if they have families, are relocated to areas near orphanage schools where their kids receive an education.

This total project is a partnership between many private and religious groups. The project itself was initiated, orchestrated, and is coordinated by leaders and volunteers at W.A.C.C.. These leaders saw a great need and wanted to make a difference in the world where we all live. They see this as an act of faith in Jesus Christ to help others and believe that in addition to helping our neighbors locally with their needs, the word "neighbor" also applies to people in other parts of the world who need help. Some of the organizations who are involved in this project are: Kids Around the World, Fuller Foundation, Creative Children's Ministries, Sathyam International, Target, Impact Lives, and many local religious fellowships of all denominations who have donated funds and educational materials. The team may be comprised of members from all of these organizations and a few more.  The team will be between 2 and 15 persons, each of whom is responsible for his or her part of their journey.

Through previous fundraising efforts, both playgrounds have already been fully paid - more than $200,000 in equipment for a greatly reduced price of $70,000 plus shipping. THIS PROJECT IS ALMOST FULLY FUNDED.

All donations are tax-deductible.  To donate here by credit card, realize that approximately 6% of your donated amount will go toward the fees.  If you want the full amount of your donation to go to this project, please make your tax-deductible check out to "WACC" and write "India" in the memo area. Mail the checks to: WACC (c/o A-Squared, India), 8175 Villaverde Dr., Whittier, CA 90605.
