The Redcay Strong fund to help cover the expenses associated with Derrick's rehabilitation from the stroke that severed his spinal cord.

On April 24, 2014, 18 year-old Muhlenberg High School senior Derrick Redcay suffered a rare stroke to his spinal cord during school.  The stroke severed his spinal cord nerves at the C4-C6 area.  As a result, Derrick currently has no sensations or movement below his neck.  Derrick currently needs assistance with breathing, but the family is hopeful that this is only temporary.

Derrick is a volunteer firefighter with the Goodwill Fire Company, helping out at a 5-alarm blaze in the township less than 24 hours before he was stricken.  Derrick has been accepted to the University of New Haven to study Fire Science

Derrick is also a member of the high school varsity baseball team, the Alsace Lutheran Church Youth Group, and is a member of the National Technical Honor Society, earned by maintaining a 3.5 GPA since the 9th grade.

The Derrick Redcay Strong fund has been set up to assist with the ongoing expenses related to the support and care of Derrick and his family.

Derrick's father, Brian, is a graduate of Muhlenberg High School and works for Muhlenberg Township.  Derrick's mother, Deb, is a graduate of Southern Lehigh High School and works as a kindergarten teacher in the Reading School District.  Derrick has a younger brother, Daniel, who is an 11th grader at Muhlenberg High School.

The Redcay family needs our prayers and support.  Any donation for this wonderful family would go a long way towards helping them cope with this tragedy.

Derrick's family has established a Caring Bridge account under 'Redcay Strong' to provide periodic updates on Derrick's progress:
