Our sister Carol was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer over 2 and a half years ago.

All attempts to treat this cancer with the traditional methods has failed. We are trying to raise money to help Carol and her family with their medical expenses. First, we want to thank everyone that donated during our first fund raiser, your donations allowed Carol to fly to India to receive some cutting edge Cancer treatments. Carol needs to go back in September for another round of treatments, but we need your help to get her there. You can see a list of previous donors on http://www.giveforward.org/cure4carol   Our sister and sister-in-law, Carol Tomlin Totoro, was diagnosed with Stage IV (Metastasis to Liver) Colon cancer in August 2007. Over the last 2 and half years, she has valiantly battled her cancer with great strength, grace and dignity. She has undergone two surgeries and four different chemotherapy protocols. Each protocol was more harsh then the previous.    This February, her oncologist told her that the Standard Care Protocols were no longer effective. Her current tumors grew and more tumors are present. The only option left was to find a clinical trial to continue treatment. After consulting with doctors at Memorial Sloan Kettering (NY), University of Pennsylvania (PA) and MD Andersen (TX), they all agreed it made sense to start with a Phase II Clinical Trial available at Roswell Park Cancer Research Center in Buffalo, NY. Carol was accepted into the study and started treatments on March 2nd, 2010. On April 20th the Roswell trial results came in and the treatments were not effective. Carol was planning on starting the clinical trial at MD Anderson in Houston, TX in early May, but all options pointed back to more chemotherapy. Charlie and Carol found a study in Bangalore India and have decided to try this approach. Since this is out of the country, their insurance covers none of the medical or travel expenses. The study is for 28 consecutive days of treatment. A month in India will be expensive enough just to get there, stay there and return. The medical costs will just add to the expense. Our brother and brother-in-law Charlie has been by her side throughout her ordeal for which his business has suffered significantly. Their financial situation has suffered with high deductibles, co-pays and out of pocket expenses. We want to help them and need your help. We are in the planning stages of several different fundraising events under "Cure for Carol". Our first event was a Multi-family Garage Sale, Bake Sale and Car Wash which was held in April. We had a great turn out for this event and appreciate all of the support. Future events we are currently planning include a 5K Walk and an Auction / Banquet. Check back later for updates or....
