The family and friends of Sandy Barnes are raising money for Sandy's medical expenses. She recently had a bone marrrow transplant.

Sandy is 26 years old and recently had a bone marrow transplant to treat a rare blood disorder called Aplastic Anemia, which she was diagnosed with in February of 2011. Aplastic Anemia is a disorder where your body attacks it's own cells, causing them to not be able to regenerate. The cells it affects are the red and white blood cells and the platelets causing the person to be anemic with a very weak immune system. The only cure for Aplastic Anemia is a bone marrow transplant. After being diagnosed, two of her sisters were tested to see if they were a match but neither were. In March she was admitted to the hospital to get an alternative to the transplant which is less successful, but at this point her only option. The treatment is called ATG, it is like chemo but the side effects are less harsh. She was hospitalized for 9 days, and continued to go back to the hospital for transfusions until her red and white blood cells and platelet counts increased, but they never did. In July, her doctors contacted her to say they found a match in the National Donor Registry. On August 19th, she was admitted to the hospital for her bone marrow transplant. The transplant went smoothly, however she will be out of work for months until her immune system recovers. All donations will go to her medical bills and expenses while she is out of work.
