The family and friends of Susan Perkins are uniting to raise money to help with her battle against breast cancer and lymphoma.

Asking for help was not something we thought of doing but Mom needs help...

My mom, also known as Susan Perkins, is in her 60's and has lived a pretty good life for the most part. Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2011. She had lumps in both breasts but the doctors removed one breast and during the mastectomy, they found cancer cells in her lymph nodes. They removed what they could. Now diagnosed with lymphoma, mom is receiving chemotherapy. But that isn't enough. They are going to give her radiation 5 days a week for 4 or 5 weeks. The chemicals that help to kill cancer are so harsh on the system that moms red and white blood cell counts crashed and would not recover while she was in the hospital. Due to this, she underwent a blood transfusion. God bless blood donors... thank you.

I am one of 4 children mom raised in her home. Three of us are her natural children and one was adopted. Things weren't always easy for mom, they rarely are for anyone. See, mom was born with a hereditary disease in her legs and the doctors did not know how to treat it. So she walks on very swollen ankles and feet (painful!). She has wounds on her legs that won't heal and people often galk due to a lack of understanding. This disease prevented her from enjoying some of the favorite activities her young friends were able to enjoy, like running, jumping, etc... and made it difficult to enjoy some of the activities mothers enjoy with their children when we were young. But she took care of us the best she could and we love her. She had to raise us without our dad.

Moms heart started giving her trouble a few years ago and she has been in and out of the hospital for the past few years. As you can imagine, this has taken it's toll on holding down a job. She is an educated woman with multiple degrees and cetifications, but in the last few years, she has been caring for an elderly woman at the family's request. Losing her breast and undergoing chemotherapy has taken her from that. So, without an income and no insurance, the medical bills keep mounting ever higher, she has applied for disability and other assistance from the hospital where she is being cared for. It has been a huge help, but it doesn't cover everything. We have often purchased clothing, gas and food for her. It is hard to see her in such desparate need.

Moms sister lives in Florida, she has four children spread out across the USA, 6 grandchildren and 2 great -grandchildren who she would like to see grow up at least a little, but she says she is thankful for the time she has had and love she has received. Her mom is still alive! Nana has seen cancer take so many of our family members (including her husband, my grandfather) and it is very hard for Nana to watch her daughter suffer the way my grandfather did. It brings back so many memories and fears. But, if mom can make it through the treatments, Nana won't have to see her oldest daughter taken by this epidemic. It's painful and unnatural.

Any donations offered would be greatly appreciated.  This site was set up to accept credit card donations and we will have PayPal set up by 8/19/12 for a more secure donation payment.  But if anyone is uncomfortable donating online, a check or money order can be sent to: Susan Perkins PO Box 178 Manasquan, NJ 08736.  Her tax ID# is 454594244.

Through all of this, somehow she keeps a smile on her face.

Thank you for your help.

(NKJV) 2 Cr 9:7 - So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. Thank you. Susan's beloved daughter.
