Emily Sloan's friends are raising funds to help her while she DESTROYS an aggressive form of head cancer. Artists take care of their own!
Y'all. Emily Sloan is….she's just so awesome. You all know her as an artist/veritable chameleon/curator/covert operative/teacher/champion for the underdog (or should) and you know how hilarious and authentic and kind she is. Well, she needs our support.
This summer she was diagnosed with some crazy-terrible-one-in-a-million type cancer. You can read more details and get updates on her progress via her CaringBridge site, here. But in short, she has multiple cancerous tumors on her her head and has had/will need many surgeries and radiation to remove them. She is receiving care great care from MD Anderson in Houston, but the treatment (and billing) has only just begun.
A rare self-employed artist indeed, Emily had the foresight to buy insurance for herself long before she knew there was anything serious on the horizon, but the policy she could afford has a very high deductible. Besides the out of pocket expenses for medical care and prescriptions, there's the mounting post-surgical exhaustion and long recuperation times causing missed work and lots of lost opportunities.
She's going to kill me for setting this page up. She would never ask for money of all things…. but I am. I'm asking you to pitch in what you can reasonably afford to help a friend and fellow artist get through a deeply scary thing. If we can get 400 people to donate $25 we can help cover her deductible and ease some of the stress that accompanies such a major health crisis.
