Mark and Mary Ellen's family is raising funds to help lessen the strain of medical costs and allow for him to have the assistance he needs.
It was my original intention to Surprise Mark and Mary Ellen with raising the funds of $5,000 to help lessen the stress of this time for them. I figured I would show up at their house some time at the end of November with a check and some warm messages from family and friends and they would be so grateful. So, I started a small fundraiser with that $5,000 goal, to last just two weeks.
By the first week, we had already met that first goal. It was going so strong, I just couldn't stop the fundraiser so soon. I extended the date and raised the goal. The response you have all given has been overwhelming! Due to the quick deterioration of Mark's health, I decided to tell Mark and Mary Ellen before the fundraiser was over. wanted Mark to be aware of all of the love and support he was receiving from all of his friends and family, and those who care about him through his friends and family. Mary Ellen and Mark were just overwhelmed by all of the generosity that you have shown them. The thoughtful and encouraging messages are proof to how inspiration Mark is, and how their will, faith, hope and love is inspiration to us all.
This is happening not only to them, but to all of us who love them so very much. I am so glad I was able to find a way to allow so many of you to contribute, and to help in some way. The fundraiser will officially end on December 4th. After that, if anyone still wishes to contribute, please contact me via phone, mail or e-mail.
Those of you who know Mark, know he's been our family's very own miracle. He has been living with a cancerous brain tumor for over 17 years. He has had numeous surgeries, including 2 crainiotomies, and multiple complications over the years. In the last few years, those complications have worsened, and he has been needing more and more constant care. At this time Mary Ellen (my sister, his wife) often has to take leave from work to care for Mark. He has some days that are better than others, but often needs assistance completing daily routines.
I know many times our friends and family members have asked what they can do to help. I am at a loss myself, as unfortunately cancer is not a house that can be knocked down and rebuilt, or made better by a coat of paint.... Last spring a friend of mine sent out a link for Give Forward, raising funds for his sister. I don't know if her goal was met, but I do know that she feels that the funds raised truly saved her life. While I know the results for Mark won't quite be the same, the raising of funds will allow for him to be taken care of with less stress and guilt. At this time, anything that can make life a little less stressful for Mary Ellen and Mark and their family is what we can do to help.
Many of Mary Ellen and Mark's friends and family members have already been so vey generous. I thank you for going out of your way to try to make life a little easier for them.
If you would like to help by making a small donation, please feel free to contribute via this web page. If you would prefer to send a check, please contact me via e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org). I am hoping to surprise them with this, so I don't want anything being sent directly to them. If you would like to help in some other way, please contact me as well.
Your continued thoughts and prayers are, of course, always deeply appreciated.
