The Dodd family needs your help to keep from becoming homeles.

We are a family of 5. My wife and I have been married for 12 wonderful years. We have 3 children. Our oldest is Amanda. She will be celebrating her 16th birthday on July 31st. Next is Christian who will be 14 in August. Then we have Abbey, the "baby" of the family. She is 11.

We currently rent a home from my mother. It is a 2 story brick home, roughly 100 years old. The house is in pretty good shape. Nothing leaks. It is a 4 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath. The house is located in my hometown in Indiana.

My mother has been very generous with letting us rent the house. Now, however, some circumstances have changed and she needs to sell the home. My step-father has been diagnosed with bone cancer in his spine, and also has some spots on his lungs that may or may not be cancer as well. This puts a financial burden on them to say the least. On top of that, my grandfather is not doing well. At almost 90 years old, he has lived a very long, very happy life. That is not the case anymore. He cannot do things for himself. My grandmother does what she can, but it's very difficult for her. As his health deteriorates, it only makes her job more stressful. My mother would like to retire and move closer to them to help take some of that burden off of my grandmother.

I would love to purchase the house on my own. I have had some medical issues myself and we are paying quite a bit on hospital bills because of it. These bills have accumulated to the point that our credit score is ruined. it will take a long time to pull out of this.

I served my country for 8 years in the United States Navy. It was a wonderful job and I truly loved it. Things changed for me however, during my time on the ship. Our ship was a diving and salvage ship. We were on-scene during the TWA flight 800 salvage operation. One of my best friends found the black boxes. For my part, I rigged the wreckage to be offloaded onto small boats and taken to shore. I also donned the bio-hazard suits and cleaned up the bodies. This was rough, as there were well over 200 people lost in that crash. I did my job to the best of my ability, and I thought that I was fine with it. Turns out, I was not. I have PTSD and that has caused most of our financial trouble.

In closing, I would like to attempt to appeal to you, the American people to help me. Please help my family. I am trying my best, and it kills me to ask, but I'm completely out of options. Thank you and God bless.
