The family of Nick Battles are raising money to assist with physical therapy and transportation as a result of a severe spinal cord injury.

November 9, 2011 Lcpl. Nick Battles (19 years old), suffered a severe spinal cord injury during combat training for the Marine Corps. He suffered a C-5 burst and C-6 fracture which has left him a quadraplegic. Nick has been hospitalized for 10 months. Currently, he is an inpatient at the James Haley VA in Tampa Florida. He is looking forward to a November 28, 2012 discharge. When discharged, Nick will reside in an apartment in Tampa, Florida requiring 24 hour care. He will attend therapy at the VA as an outpatient. In addition to his VA therapy, Nick will be attending physical therapy at Project Walk in Orlando Florida. Although his VA benefits cover his VA therapy, they do not cover his therapy in Orlando, his living expenses and transportation. We are asking for help to buy a wheelchair van, first, and second, to assist with his Project Walk therapy. He cannot continue his therapy without transportation. Right now, we borrow vans from local rental businesses when they are available. But this is "hit or miss". Nick is very motivated and positive. Although, the Doctors can't predict Nick's future, Nick is bound and determined to live a full and productive life. Through his dedication to work hard and doing extra therapy on his own, he is positive that he will someday walk again. His courage and strength to push through each day is humbling. Nick is my son and a Hero to all.
