This is Macy's medical expense fund. The goal is to offset the cost of her emergency intestinal surgery.

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." -Author Unknown

If you know Macy, my 8-year-old Boston Terrier, then you know she is often mistaken for a puppy because of her never ending energy, her constant jumping around, and endless fetching/retrieving of any ball or Frisbee. On 12/26/2011, I noticed something was terribly wrong with her. She didn’t want to play or eat (so unlike her) and she was vomiting for most of the day. Within 24 hours, I took her to the veterinarian and later, hospital, where they ran a battery of tests including x-rays, blood screens and an ultrasound. Macy was diagnosed with an “impacted bowel” that required emergency invasive intestinal surgery, that if left untreated, could have had a fatal result.

Anyone who knows me knows that Macy is like my child, my best friend, my heart. There was no hesitation in getting her the required medical attention needed to save her life. In doing so, I gained hope that my dear friend would survive, but was left with a depleted bank account and maxed out credit cards. The tests, surgery, 48 hours hospitalization, medications, etc. amounted to over $5,000.

So soon after Christmas, a pay cut, and my roommate moving out by the end of January, this situation became financially overwhelming at one time. I know you’re supposed to save for a rainy day, but I wasn’t expecting a monsoon.

Friends of mine and Macy offered to help and suggested I start this page. A few even have already donated to help with Macy’s medical expenses (THANK YOU Kat & Pete and Stephanie & Andrew for your generosity).

In addition to this page, I’m also setting up a Facebook page called TEAM MACY. There, I hope to keep people updated on Macy’s recovery (slow, but steady) and to announce upcoming bake sales (with the help of my pastry chef sister) and other fundraising endeavors in the works.

Many have asked if there is anything they can do for me and Macy. Moral support has been greatly appreciated and this is another way to help out whether near or far. No donation is too small.

In the words of author Louis Sabin, “No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich.”

Thank you, in advance, for your help and well wishes for Macy’s recovery,

Nicole (& Macy)
