Operation Orphan Girl seeks to fund $1000 for an urgent life saving & pain reducing medication in the treatment for scleroderma.

Hi Friends. I've never reached out for monetary support in this way and I admit it feels a bit strange but it also feels very right. Years ago my dad, Steve Chacon, discovered a cousin he never knew he had, Susan O'Brien. She was raised in orphanages and foster homes and ultimately did find an adoptive home but from there her story doesn't get any better; in fact it gets much, much worse. She suffered unspeakable abuse that includes the worst of the worst. She was locked in closets and basements on a dog collar and chain. Starved. Hidden away. She is the story you've heard before only this time she is my family. And I am counting on your good hearts to help me change her story. To write her final chapter with love and compassion. All she's known is neglect and abuse for her entire life. To add insult to injury she suffers from a cruel and unusual disease called scleroderma which attacks your bodies internal organs and also the skin, slowly and painfully turning soft, connective tissue into a stiff bone like substance. It's cause may even have something to do with the conditions surrounding her abuse. Some people with scleroderma have a history of being around silica dust and polyvinyl chloride which she may have been exposed to for long periods while chained up in basements and dangerous environments many years ago. As you can imagine her ability to obtain proper health care is a tangled mess of red tape. She falls through many cracks that are making it difficult to obtain disability. She does get a small amount from social security but chooses to buy food over medicine with that. Sometimes she is well enough to work but as she ages "sometimes" is turning into rare times. We recently discovered, quite by accident, that she has gone off of her life saving and pain reducing medication because she can not afford it. That brings me to GiveForward.com and to you, my friends. My family just needs to raise $1000 to give her a 3-month supply of the medication she needs right now. After that is a bridge we'll cross when we get there but if we can get the $1000 today than we'll be able to get her the urgent help she needed yesterday. Please help in any way you can. Funds will be directed in care of my dad who is the named beneficiary here on this fundraising page so the contact information is all in his name. If you want to know more about her and her story please call me directly at 701-815-2727. We have set up a credit card account at the Walgreens that fills her prescription so any funds raised here will be used to pay on that card for the purpose of Suzan's medications. Thank you for your help. It will be impossible to cover the costs for Suzan without you.
