This is the Michael Northedge Colon Cancer Surgery Fund. The funds raised will be used for surgery and related medical costs.

Michael Northedge has always been a provider, a helper, a very giving person. It’s part of who he is. He’s had a gentle soul and giving way since he was kid. He’s always been the “go to” guy for relatives and friends. Now, it’s our time to give back. Michael needs help, he’s fighting for his life.

In late September of 2010 at the age of 43, Michael was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer. He is 6'3" and went from a healthy 200 lbs. to a frightening 155 lbs. in a matter of weeks. A fist sized mass was discovered in the upper quadrant of his colon. He underwent an invasive surgery the following morning. One-third of his colon was removed. We were in shock, literally stunned and the word ‘numb’ comes to mind as this stark reality was unfolding.

In mid-October, as his staples were being removed, we noticed the lower portion of the incision was red and inflamed. My heart sank as I saw the hesitation in the nurse’s face. An infection had set in and he was rushed to emergency surgery. They re-opened the entire incision which started at his mid-chest and went 2-inches below his belly button. After 6 weeks in Conway Hospital, Michael finally came home, only to find out his employer had terminated him leaving us with no income, as I am disabled and unable to work.

We felt we had to get something started to alleviate the stress on Michael so that he can focus all of his energy and strength on his recovery. The money donated will be used to pay for medical expenses, colostomy supplies and one more, much needed surgery.

Please keep Michael in your prayers. He needs your support to help stay strong through this challenging time.
