Family and friends of Cal Cotton aka The Moor- Tarik or the Black King are requesting your help in his fight with inoperable brain cancer!

Cal Cotton has selflessly entertained 1,000’s over the last 20+ years at various Renaissance faires, Civil War reenactments, and other historical living history events through out the Western United States, while at the same time caring for his disabled wife/partner, Theresa.
Cal overcame colon cancer only to be diagnosed with a new primary form of brain cancer in Februrary this year. In a few short months, he has gone from a healthy former Navy SEAL in excellent shape to completely paralyzed on one side.

Cal is educated in Western and African American history, and has volunteered countless hours sharing that knowledge with students and teachers alike. In addition to Ren Faire has also been a merchant and character fixture at many Science Fiction, Fantasy, Anime, & Gaming Conventions in the Western US where he greated everyone with a smile and a story.

Cal began his life at Faire in 1968, while home on leave from the war in Viet Nam. He is an honorably discharged Navy Seal. From that first day at Faire on he was hooked and has continued taking part in Faires and other events, to this day. At Faire, he has participated over the years as a member of the Queen’s Guard, the Black King in the epic Living Chess Game, a Sergeant in Stoddard’s Company of Foot, as an assistant falconer, and finally the owner of the well-known Hornsmythe Booth. Cal was one of the first resident Moors at many Faires and would educate all on the importance of The Moorish culture on History. You may know him as the Black Moor who would have offered to purchase your wife or girlfriend for an Arabian stallion or entreated you to come into his booth to a make a purchase because he has, "...150 wives and 3 sick camels to support.”

Cal was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer on February 4th of this year and now, we are sad to report that the diagnosis is terminal. He has now been hospitalized twice and has spent time in an rehabilitation facility. Additionally, though he has medical coverage through his “day job” a good part of the household income is from the various faires and conventions that he and his wife attend throughout the year. Now that he will no longer be able to transport the two of them to these various locations, their income will be seriously curtailed. Covering medical costs, at the very least, is going to be difficult at best.

They are expecting to need funds for the following: • Medical Expenses not covered by insurance (Medicines, Tests, etc.) • Transportation Costs (To/from Dr’s. visits, medical treatments, etc.) • Housing Costs (Assisted Living, etc.) • Caregiver Costs (once home) • Special Dietary/Medicinal Needs. Whatever does not get spent immediately will be carefully saved and used towards future costs. If necessary we will set up another GiveForward. Additionally, please take a moment to post a comment, and/or “Like” and/or “Share” on his FB page under Cal Cotton 'The Moor Tarik' The Black King to send him messages and to show your appreciation for all he has done...while he is still with us. Also, if you would, please spread the word to any, and all, who know him!

Lastly, donations can also be made via Check to: Cal Cotton P.O. Box 4321 Huntington Beach, CA 92605-4321. THANK YOU from all of us!!! Very Sincerely, Lisa, aka "Kate"
