Sharon was born on January 11, 1965, with an 85% hearing loss as a result of her mother having rubella. She has lived in Akron, Ohio, her entire life. Despite her hearing impairment, Sharon attended mainstream schools and graduated from Green High School in 1984. She realized a life long dream of becoming a mom when her daughter, Gabrielle, was born on April 28, 1995.

In April of 2008, only 6 months after a mammogram which came back negative, Sharon was diagnosed with breast cancer. The tumor was large, and there was involvement of the lymph nodes.

At that time, she underwent radiation and chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, and then eventually a double mastectomy along with removal of the lymph nodes, and six months later, reconstructive surgery. Throughout it all, even when we all thought there was no way she could work, she would report to her job at Sterling Corporation, where she has been employed for 21 years.

About a year after her reconstruction, she developed a pain in her right leg, and further testing revealed breast cancer cells in her femur, her spine, and her ovaries. She bounced back quickly from the hysterectomy, but faced more radiation and more chemotherapy in an attempt to contain the disease, which had spread to her bone marrow.

With everything she has been through in the last four years, to say that Sharon has been an inspiration to everyone who knows her would be an understatement. Her family, friends and coworkers have been amazed at her resolve.

As a testament to the kind of person she is and the goodness of her heart, she has been my best friend for 27 years, despite the fact that we have lived on opposite sides of the country for most of that time, and Sharon has many other lifelong friendships.

Throughout it all, Sharon has been unbelievably positive and strong, which is just who she is. But her strength also comes from the love and support of her entire family. Sharon is a fighter, takes it all day by day, is always hopeful, and is always certain of a time when she will again be well. She never complains, always has a smile on her face, is still generous with her easy laugh, and has that special sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes.

Amazingly, she continued working at Sterling as much as possible through it all, even if just a couple hours a day, until a few weeks ago. Years of treatment have taken their toll, and Sharon needs all of her energy to keep fighting. She will now have to go on disability, and with mounting medical expenses and a home to care for, we are turning to you for help. She has a large deductible on her medical plan, and is afraid of losing the home she shares with her daughter.

If you ever had a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt or a friend who has faced breast cancer, you know that although every day is a blessing, new health challenges must also be faced, and the cost of care is unbelievably high.

Please offer a prayer for God to heal His daughter, Sharon, and to help her family and friends stay strong. Please give whatever you can. And thank you so much for your generosity which will help alleviate the financial burden so that she can focus all her energy on healing.

God Bless You!

April 20, 2012 - Today, Sharon's friend, Shari, asked me to post the following prayer for us all to say together, from wherever we are at 6:00 am, whether on the road, at home or at work. God needs to hear us all at the same time. We will be meditating on the Lord's Prayer:

Our Father who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
And the power,
And the glory,
Forever and ever,

At the end, we will say "If it is Your will, Father, we ask You to heal our dear Sharon. In Jesus' name."

P.S. If anyone has a favorite photo of themselves with Sharon that they'd like me to post on the site, please feel free to email them to me at I would love for her to see all the people who love and care about her come together here in photos.
