This is Pam's brain & spinal surgery fund. The funds will be used for Pam's medical costs and related expenses not covered by insurance.

In February 2008 Pam was diagnosed with Chiari 1 Malformation ( . She had been battling severe headaches, balance issues, numbness, dizziness, and many other debilitating symptoms. Luckily she had a primary care provider that listened and tested for all the correct things and she was diagnosed quickly unlike some people that suffer for years before an accurate diagnoses. She was referred to a Neurosurgeon and was told that the success rate for surgery (decompression) was 97% so she agreed to have surgery which occurred April 11, 2008. For a few weeks after even though there was pain from the surgery she felt as though the symptoms prior were subsiding, but then after her third month post-surgery, the symptoms started to return. For almost three years she suffered and went to neurosurgeons, emergency rooms, and was not given an answer to why she continued to get worse. During this time she was unable to continue with work and lost her health insurance. Permanent nerve damage may be imminent. In March 2011 Pam’s list of symptoms has grown to over 25. But good news! She had married her long time love and now has medical insurance.

A world renowned surgeon Dr. M. Rosner that focuses on Chiari 280 miles away was contacted and an appointment was scheduled. During this appointment he discovered that Pam had an inadequate decompression surgery, cervical spondylosis with myelopathy (, disorder of the autonomic nervous system (, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (, and neurogenic bladder. In June alone, she has appointments with an Urologist, a Neurologist, a Neuro-ophthalmologist, a Neurosurgeon, to get various test done (MRI’s, Cat scans, X-rays, Tilt table tests). The scheduled surgery is on July 20th 2011 at Park Ridge Hospital in Hendersonville, NC. for decompression of the brain and to repair the C-6 and 7 of the spine.

Pam is eager to have her life back and have some sort of normalcy. There is currently no cure for Chiari but decompression surgery will help ease most symptoms.
Because the Neurosurgeon and Hospital is out of network, insurance will only cover 60% of the cost. In addition, there is travel, hotel expenses, and medication that we have to consider. We are trying our best to manage the costs.

We are asking that you help donate to help Pam in her fight with Chiari. Every penny will help.

Thank you, Pamela & Jack Bhuthimethee
