The "AlansNewLife" fund is to help defray the costs of my brother's cancer-related medical expenses as he has no insurance and cannot work.

My brother, Alan, has undergone 4 major surgeries for head and neck cancer, as well as chemo and radiation. He has no muscles left in his throat, cannot eat solid food - he can't even swallow his own saliva so he has a portable suction machine that he relies on - and lost his ability to speak as we know it. Half of his tongue was removed and rebuilt with tissue from his thighs but it's non-functional. His latest surgery lasted 14 hours. He has no medical insurance as he can no longer work due to his disability and he keeps falling through the Public Aid "donut" hole of a $7500 spend-down before he can get any assistance. He is not eligible for Social Security medical coverage for another 18 months. Alan was the drummer and lead singer in his 20's for a local group and not being able to even whistle now crushes him. He had a beautiful voice and he misses singing so much. I tell him all the time that he's a "rock star" - because he's never given up hope and never stopped fighting. He loved to cook and he really loved to eat. I couldn't imagine never eating solid food for the rest of my life. All the things we take for granted, such as a nice cold drink on a summer's day is no longer possible for him. Al worked very hard for 30 years as a diesel mechanic and he misses working a lot, but he cannot physically do it anymore. He doesn't like being dependent upon anyone and our parents have gotten him thru the last 4 years, but they live off their Social Security and it's getting harder and harder. They've maxed out their credit cards paying for Al's medicine, food, etc. and his credit cards are also maxed after 4 years of surgery, CAT scans, PET scans and all the other regular testing that goes along with having cancer. We've exhausted every avenue we know of to get him some financial help to no avail. My wish for him, along with being cancer-free, is to go to bed at night and sleep soundly knowing that he has a little money in the bank. He's a wonderful man - I wish you could all know him. He still has that twinkle in his eye that we all know and love. My beloved brother is still in there - just in a different way. That's why I called fund "Alan's New Life" because he'll never have his old one back and we're all looking forward. Thank you for any help you may be able to give. The Family of Alan Robinson, especially me, his big sis, Ann.
