At age 28, the last thing you expect to hear is that you have breast cancer, but that's what happened to Kimberly Adams. Now, her toughest fight -- against Stage 2 HER breast cancer -- begins. We know she can do it, but she needs our help.

Thank you so much for your generous support of Kim.  Due to a change in Kim's treatment schedule, she will need to begin her extended leave of absence earlier than originally planned.  As a result, we are closing this fundraising campaign as of Wednesday, April 21.  So, if you've been considering making a donation, but haven't already done so, or you want to give more to help Kim, please be sure to make your donation no later than Wednesday, April 21.

Your generosity is inspiring and has given Kim great hope and courage and for that we are all very grateful.

Kimberly Adams is a happy and energetic 28-year old. She embraces joy in everything she does and always gives 100% of herself.

In December, 2009, Kim’s doctor discovered a lump in her left breast. After six weeks of x-rays, biopsies, and doctor appointments, they confirmed that she had Stage 2 HER breast cancer. In February, Kim underwent a tylectomy to remove the lump. Shortly, she will begin a six-month regime of chemotherapy.

While the prognosis for Kim is good. The battle still exists. What makes her situation particularly challenging is that Kim is a preschool teacher. We all know that preschool teachers are among some of the most under-appreciated and under-compensated professionals out there. They also have the kind of jobs that require a whole lot of energy and focus. As she wrestles with the effects of the chemotherapy, her frequent and time-consuming doctor appointments, and the stress of balancing work and her illness, it has become clear that Kim will need financial, in addition to emotional, support during this ordeal.

Kim does have insurance to cover most of her medical expenses. However, she is quickly diminishing her accrued leave and will soon face a reduction in her salary to account for her leave without pay. Kim is proud and doesn’t like to ask for help. So, that’s why I created this fundraiser for Kim. Kim is my co-worker and friend and someone for whom I have great respect. I would love to see her receive the kind of support from others that she has so naturally given for as long as I have known her.
