The Family of Ronald Rarden are raising money for his support and recovery from Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Ronald (Ronnie) Rarden is my Father. My Mother and him have been married for over 26 years and are definitely soulmates. He has 2 daughters, Melissa and Katee and 2 wonderful Grandchildren Luke and Jenna.
Sometime ago he developed a nagging cough, he went to his family doctor and suggested it was just allergies, so the doctor gave him some allergy meds. This seemed to alleviate it some but not completely. Because my Dad was on a new job and didn't have insurance yet he continued to work and didn't complain much. until April 3, 2012. He had coughed so much that he was in severe pain and was rushed to the local ER. Upon arrival there they did a Catscan and found something wrong with his lungs. They then transferred him to Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY where he remained for 4 days. After being treated for pneumonia he began to feel better, but this was short lived. He then had an appointment with a pulmonary specialist, Dr Donna Gerhardstein. She then put him on steroids and thought this would disappear by itself, but it didn't.
With no real diagnosis and my Dad getting worse they admitted him back in the hospital to do an Open Lung Biopsy. after the surgery and recovery we finally had a diagnosis, it was a rare form of Pulmonary Fibrosis called Desquamative Interstitial Pneumonitis, it is considered a smokers Dad never smoked nor was around anyone that had, so there was still questions.. Dr. Gerhardstein had never seen this disease personally and suggested he get a second opinion at The Cleveland Clinic, with money hard to come by, we raised money through to help pay for this 6 hour trip and hotel stay. Upon arrival my Dad saw Dr. Farha and was given several tests and questions, after Dr. Farha looked at the biopsy along with several other Drs. at the clinic they confirmed the diagnosis of DIP. Only problem is there was too much Fibrosis (scarring) in the lungs already, that could not be reversed.
As of right now my Dad is taking Chemo drugs to stop the progression of this disease, he is scheduled to see the transplant team at the Cleveland Clinic within the next 2 months if this drug does not work. If he has to have a transplant and it is done in Cleveland he and my Mother will have to relocate to Cleveland, Ohio for at least 3 months, we are hoping not to have to do that. We know that times are tough and everyone cannot donate money..but please share this site with other people so that we may start a prayer chain and pray for my Dad and cure for his lung disease.
The money raised from this fundraiser will help offset expenses covered for travel, lodging and medical expenses not covered by his insurance. Please feel free to send him well wishes or if you prefer to send him a check you may mail it to:
