Fundraiser for Spinal Surgery for first grade student with kyphoscoliosis: Shannon Duncan

Shannon is an inspiring first grader at our elementary school who was born with kyphoscoliosis. He is one of four children in a very supportive and caring family. Shortly after he was born, Shannon underwent the first of many surgeries that were to correct his spine. Due to his condition, Shannon has had to undergo a number of intensive, extremely painful procedures. In addition, Shannon for a number of months at a time has been confined to his bed and wheel chair that are attached to weights that are connected to a halo screwed to his head. He needs assistance getting around, is in extreme pain, and is not able to attend school due to his condition. Unfortunately, despite the extremely intensive surgeries, which almost left him paralyzed, his condition has not improved and has continued to decline. This has greatly impacted his and his family’s life, and both Shannon and his family have remained very positive. The rods that have been surgically inserted have now posed additional problems and with his growing, begun to press through his back. Currently there is only one surgeon who is able to perform the necessary surgery he needs, but he is in St. Louis and the costs are astronomical and only a fraction is covered by his parent’s insurance. His family is doing everything possible to help make this surgery happen, but the medical, not to mention the travel costs. As a result, we are trying to help Shannon and his family to raise the money to go towards his surgery. The money donated will be used to pay for Shannon’s medical expenses and to help with daily living expenses while Shannon’s mother takes off from work and travels with him for his surgery. Shannon and his family need all your support and prayers to help them stay strong through this trial. If you would prefer to mail a check, you may do so in Shannon Duncan’s name or to his mother, Sabrina Hart Duncan at 3003 Emerald Meadow Lane, Charlotte, NC 28273.
