I am raising money to purchase supplies and other items to make hats for chemo patients and cancer victims.

Have you been MOPT? - It's good for your head.

I am a mom, artist, and teacher. About a year ago, I started knitting as my poor pottery scarred hands started to show some abuse. Knitting was something I could do in the cold winter months of the mountain region of Colorado. So I came up with MOPT - short for "Mop on Top. " As you can see in the pictures, each cap is hand knit and unique. Truly one of a kind. I try to add a different flare to each one I make. I sold hats to skiers in Apsen and Vail, Snowmass and Glenwood Springs. I gave hats to all my grandkids. They are a big hit!

This story begins about 5 months ago. I have two kids - A daughter and a son. Kyla is 30, Dane is 28. Kyla was diagnosed with cancer. Her story is here on this site too. We were horrified to hear of how the cancer was invading her body and of her original prognosis for recovery. The docs didn't give her much hope. She is a fighter though and began a regiment of chemo and other alternative therapies. We knew the chemo was going to cause her hair to fall out. One day on the phone, we laughed and teased about how she was going to need a different hat for each day of the week. I told her I'd make her a bunch. She commented that if I made a bunch more she could sell them to other chemo patients. I told her to give them to them - don't sell them anything as they have enough on their plates to contend with already. (She is now seeing how expenses are adding up each and every day.)
I sent 17 hats on the first go around. She has given all away but three. I sold 15 hats this past holiday season. The second round of 10 donation hats is being shipped to California this week. I started thinking about the many people out there who could use a bit of a boost. I thought it would be great if I could donate one hat for every other one I sell. There are obstacles. The cost of yarn and my time. It is what I want to do though. I am seeking funds to purchase yarn, fleece fabric, and a few tools of the trade such as a good knitting machine and looms. The machine could cut my production time considerably and allow me to make more than what I could just hand knit. I am also looking for donations of yarn or tools. if you have any thing like that you wish to help with , I would be thankful.
If you or someone you know is going through chemo and needs a small bit of love sent their way, just email me your/their name and address and I am happy to send a hat. If you have color preferences, let me know. I also would love the name and address of some cancer treatment centers so I can send some hats around the country.

For every $30.00 donation, I'll send you a hat.( and then donate one in your name to a chemo patient.)

Please send all correspondence to mopt1@rocketmail.com.

Thanks
Susan
