Please help Peighton, a 2 and a half month old baby, a victim of Shaken Baby Syndrome

On December 23, 2010, two and half month old Peighton sustained injuries, which were thought to be caused by an accident. Medical testing revealed it was child abuse aka Shaken Baby Syndrome. She suffered a broken rib and facial bruising. Further testing revealed shaking incidents had occurred as early as November 1, 2010 when she was three weeks old.

Urgent and frequent prayers were sent skyward as the valley learned that little Peighton had been first seen in a local emergency room where it was decided that she needed to be flown to a special hospital two hours away. Upon being admitted to the hospital, her parents and grandparents were at her side, protecting their little angel from further harm. While a patient, Peighton needed IV fluids, experienced projectile vomiting and seizures. For a few days, the family thought she had lost her vision because she could not focus or follow stimuli. Luckily, her vision seems to be returning to normal for her age.

God heard our numerous prayers and saw to it that she recovered well enough to return home with her family. Still there is a long hard road ahead for a beautiful baby girl who will be three months old on January 10, 2011

Peighton has not regained the prior strength with her head and neck control. It’s unclear what the long-term effects of this will be for her. The doctors will know more as she reaches or misses her developmental milestones. Early Intervention will be following Peighton for the next few years. Her family will be taking her to Geisinger Hospital for follow up appointments with specialists for at least several months.

This fundraiser was started to help Peighton’s family cover expenses from the hospitals and the medical flight, which she took when she was transferred between hospitals.

All funds raised will go directly to Jen Hunsinger who is the paternal grandma of little Peighton.
