Fidelity needs your help to be cured of a painful spinal infection and hopefully walk again.

A month ago, I couldn’t imagine coming home without hearing Fidelity’s excited yips and her little feet scampering to the door to see me. Our favorite time together was at the end of the day when we could cuddle. It is so hard to see her in so much pain, confined to a cage and on all kinds of medication. Since her spinal infection, she can’t sit, stand or even be held without pain. Please help bring my baby back to me.

Fidelity was initially misdiagnosed with a herniated disc. Because she is a 7 yr old dachshund, the vets assumed that this diagnosis was clear. Surgery was inevitable. After extensive testing, it became apparent that she actually has discospondylitis: a Spinal Infection. [Don’t let your vet stop at the first assumption, however common. The steroids the vet gave me to ease Fidelity’s misdiagnosed herniation actually fed the infection that is causing her so much pain and lameness!]

Unfortunately, in order to do the diagnostics, I had to borrow money that I don’t have just to be able to get her out of the hospital. And we are in for a long year ahead with vet visits, radiographs, antibiotics, and pain medications. The neurologist said with proper care and attention, she should be right as rain. However, after the expenses of treating the disc and preparing for surgery, I am worried that I won’t be able to keep her because of finances.

The hope is that: 1) the infection will not spread and will be cured with the antibiotics, 2) Fidelity will no longer be in pain, 3) she will be able to walk, run, play, and cuddle in the near future. With your generosity, I know that we will find a way through these difficult times and I will be able to hear those little feet running to me again.

Thank you so much for helping me and making sure that Fidelity is “sitting pretty” again!
