Check It Out

Kate Amato is an 11 year old girl with a heart of gold and a spirit that can't be matched.

She is also in the fight of her life. For over a year now, she has been fighting stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive soft tissue cancer. This week Kate and her family received the news that her post treatment scans revealed 3 new areas of cancer in her lungs. This news is especially devastating since the Amato's have known since the beginning that their best chance of beating this type of cancer would be with the first treatment protocol. Since the news, the Amato's are doing their best to "hold it together." Kate is feeling that somehow this is her fault and has cried more than she has in the last year. Jeff and Lisa are self proclaimed "wrecks". No child should have those feelings and no family should have to endure this amount of pain.

The Amato's face several challenges and I'm so hopeful we can tackle a big source of stress. Finances. Lisa has been unable to work since Kate's diagnosis due to weekly chemotherapy sessions, daily infusions and frequent hospital stays. Jeff's once thriving company collapsed over the summer leaving no profits to support the family. Kate's brother, Jack, is autistic and requires special care. Our initial campaign was successful, we supported the Amato's for over a year! Unfortunately, the funds have run out and as of December, they are out of money. To make matters worse, the insurance they carried through Jeff's job expires at the end of December. They have met with an insurance specialist and have explored several options and have recommended that they stay on the private insurance they currently have so that Kate's care will be consistent. This, of course, comes with a hefty price tag...$1500/mo. The Amato's are very clear...As they enter the next phase of their war on cancer...They need the help of an ENTIRE village.

This news comes during a season of miracles, let's do our best to make them happen. Please pray, send positive, healing thoughts and donate, if you can. No amount is too small.

We are currently developing plans to make sure Kate has a Happy Birthday and the family has a blessed Christmas.

They also welcome cards and well wishes. Please send them to:
