The friends of Edward Karugu are raising money to buy his daily dose of expensive drugs to fight his sleeping disorder. please help us!

Have you ever heard of narcolepsy? Well, that condition has become part and parcel of the life of one Edward Karungu. The life of the form four student at Kirimara High School in Karatina continues to be characterized by a permanent and overwhelming feeling of sleepiness and fatigue, two years on. Edward was diagnosed with narcolepsy … a chronic disorder of the central nervous system, characterized by the brain's inability to control the sleep - wake cycle. It is a cycle that I witness after spending days with Edward, a teenager who in his own words says "great men are known in times of crisis"

Narcolepsy is a serious and chronic life time neurologic disorder that can affect all areas of a person’s life. Depending on the severity of symptoms, it can tremendously strain relationships with family and friends, affect education and employment, make driving and public outings hazardous, and even turn small daily tasks into major chores

Edward has been on and off school. He can hardly manage to keep awake for more than 20 minutes and therefore he misses another 20minutes of each lesson.

To keep alert he swallows a tablet that is too expensive for his single mother to afford. Day in day out, after some hours he must take the pill, otherwise he sleeps the whole day. Unfortunately Edward's mother has no medical insurance.

Currently no cure for Narcolepsy exists, nor any way to replace the missing Hypocretin. Treatment of Narcolepsy aims to relieve the symptoms.
